Unchecked sprawling development threatens to replace much of the remaining farmland, unbroken forests, and scenic vistas that make our communities so special. Residents of the Bear-Paw region are experiencing a change in the quality and character of the landscapes in which they live. Since 1970, the towns in our region have more than tripled in population. Population growth and associated development are causing the fragmentation of wildlife and plant habitat, the degradation of water quality and quantity, and the loss of working farms and forests, scenic beauty, and recreational opportunities. Bear-Paw Regional Greenways is the local, independent land conservation group working with landowners and communities to permanently protect these resources from development.

Mission & Vision

The members of Bear-Paw Regional Greenways envision a region of scenic beauty and sustained rural character, where human habitat is set within a viable network of natural areas which are preserved for present and future generations. Our mission is to create a network of voluntarily protected lands in our region which connects with the larger network in southeastern New Hampshire.

Our goal is to safeguard native wildlife and plant habitat, travel corridors, water resources, working farms and forests, the region's inherent beauty, and local recreational opportunities. Bear-Paw works to protect our region's most important natural resources by promoting voluntary land protection through outreach, education, and project assistance. Our volunteers and staff work with landowners, communities, and the public to identify opportunities for conservation, promote available conservation options, and assist with the completion of land protection projects.
